Day 16 / Dec 14 4% complete
Once again the sun has risen in the east and set in the west as is has done for millennia and will do for a millennia more.
Another groundhog day on FOB Warhorse and we arose from our sleeping bags (on cots) to the cacophony of boots on the plywood floors and someone turning on the overhead fluorescent lights. Again, I awoke to a place I didn’t want to be rather than the home and family I love – but, I know that I am here for a reason and that the reason is noble and good. Corny, yes, but true.
My list of things accomplished today include finalizing the CHU assignments, getting them emailed down to the 1SG and Commander in Kuwait, getting the room name plates printed up, acquiring a RIP (relief in place) timeline so that the BN XO will get off my back, eating breakfast and lunch, and getting some laundry done as well. It sounds like a mouthful, but really only took an hour or two at the most.
We are supposed to move into our CHUs on the 17th-ish and really, that’s the next thing I have to look forward to. Once that is complete, we can start settling in for the next 350 days of the same old thing. After CHU movement, the next big project will be receiving the company as they arrive, getting them settled into their CHUs, and waiting for our equipment to get here. Once it does, the real work will begin and we can start to relieve the unit that is here bit by bit until we are running the comms and they are living in the transition tents.
My intent for the next month is to design and implement a system whereby the platoon leaders and platoon sergeants update a database or spreadsheet on their own which will enable me to monitor what exactly is going on and who needs the focus of my attention.
As I see it, my main areas of emphasis are:
