Day 88 / Feb 25

Day 88 / Feb 25

The short blackout was lifted today.  One of the buddies of one of the Soldiers from the last Blackout committed suicide.   It is indeed a sad time for those in that company and that battalion.  It is too bad that someone takes the easy out over the hard high road.   I mean, I understand grief and pain, and I'm sure everyone has thought about it from time to time but to actually do it is one step too far.  Now, that unit has four less Soldiers rather than three and four families are destroyed.  Three died serving their country, the fourth died from being weak of spirit and personal courage.   It is a sad truth.

Nothing unusual to report.  I do keep getting discouraging remarks regarding my count of "number of indirect fire attacks," "number of blackouts," "days since last indirect fire," and "days since last blackout."   Apparently some people think its jixing them.

Got some more mail today.  I got a pillow from my mom (thanks), and a general assortment of candy and stuff from her too.   Mail is always good, even if its just a card or letter.

Y'know, I find suicide rather sad. Not necessarily for the unnecessary grief they put their loved ones through, but also that there's a small relief for the other families that they'll be taken care of monetarily for the moment. For the family of the soldier who commited suicide, that's not the case. Makes me wonder what the suicide rate is in the sandbox and whether or not the powers that be are attuned for the warning signs.

The suicide rate is all about numbers, and stats. If you have a family member commit suicide, the odds of you committing suicide as well... SKYROCKET.
Yeah its the cowardly way out... HOWEVER consider this Bryan.

When an animal is hrt or injured... do we not put them out of their misery? If a horse breaks its leg..or a dog grows too old, do we not put it to sleep?
We cannot begine to get inside the head of a person who is about to comitte suicide. The pain and anguish must be unbearable. We all know that death is forever, and that tere is no return ticket available. To these people, all they are thinking is about ending the pain, they do no see relief in the future...
You have heard of tortured prizoners of war begging for death, well they know that the torture will end, but the current physical pain is too much to handle. Emotional pain can be much worse, and more consuming.
Now lets add GOD to this little magical mix of things.... people believe in another life, and afterlife... hmmmm... so if the pain is too much to handle in this life.... you have another to go to...
