DAY 67 / FEB 03
It rained all night and I nearly had to swim through a lake to get out of my CHU this morning. We were supposed to have an emergency run to another FOB this morning because of a signal failure, but the weather (rain and wind) prevented us from going. When the helicopters can't fly, we can't leave because they can't get us if something happens. So, it'll be rescheduled for some day in the future.
The Blackout was due to the death of a Soldier from the 1/32 who was killed when an IED went off near his tank (and I assume that he was sticking out of it). The blackout has been lifted now.
The rain was unrelenting all day. Everyone and everything is soaked. I only left my office to go to dinner and still had to nearly swim there. The mudholes are so deep that you CAN'T find a spot to get through without getting soaked. It used to be fun to see where you could cross and just get a little wet… now, you might as well not even bother.
The wind is howling. It bounces stuff against the metal walls of the office and sometimes sounds like it will knock it over. We lost power in the office for awhile… power spiked and dropped… everything went out… contractors came out and fixed it finally.
Now that I'm finally dry, I need to head back to the CHU and get some sleep. Big day tomorrow… lot of fun in store! Not really, just the usual… maybe… never can tell around here.
